Food of the gods

The famous botanist Carl von Linné named the cacao tree “Theobroma cacao”.

“Theobroma” is originally Greek for “food of the gods”.

This name mirrors the faith of the Maya that cocoa (“chocoatl”) belongs to the gods. On the other hand it describes quite correctly the almost divine delight a nice cup of chocolate proves to us.
