The cocoa-producing regions in the north of Madagascar are difficult to reach.
The northern region has good soil and, as it is near the water, high humidity. This is exactly what cacao plants need to thrive. The fine flavoured cocoa of Madagascar has a unique touch of fruit and acidity.
The small cacao plantations in Madagascar could still be developed further. We are helping in this area with information campaigns on better methods of fermentation and drying.
We would like to have as many smallholders ferment and dry their cacao correctly. Thus they would earn more money for their cocoa.
The local government in Northern Madagascar is interested in developing fine flavoured cocoa production. We are helping them to do so.
